My wife loves and owns horses and was recently shopping for a new western (cowboy-style) saddle. We were visiting Texas, so we made a small detour to a store that she had heard of and was eager to see. Thus originated our visit to Teskey’s.
Teskey’s Saddle Shop is a H-U-G-E Western establishment that sells tack, saddles, and associated items at its store in Weatherford, Texas—slightly west of Fort Worth. It’s often described as “The Best in the West” and does a terrific business catering to the needs of ranchers, horse lovers and anyone into Western gear. Of note, Weatherford is considered the cutting horse capitol of the world.
Teskey’s opened in 1998 as a small facility and has grown to fill its current six acre site – a testament to what quality products, fair prices and good service can yield. Teskey’s has more than 100,000 square feet of retail space which is packed with merchandise and shoppers. The most notable product on sale was more than 1,000 new and used saddles, the largest such display I’ve ever seen.
Besides saddles, you find a ton of associated items like spurs, saddle blankets, reins, etc.
The store also has Western apparel and boots, equine health and farrier products, outdoor items like feeding bins and fences, and farm supplies like horse feed and hay; even home décor, Western art, antiques, vintage items, knives, gifts, and toys. There is a café/grill that was packed when we visited.
It’s a family-friendly place (kids and dogs welcome), and if you have a love of horses is the kind of place you can spend several hours at shopping around (as we did).
