There’s a big and growing market for sunglasses and other glasses with ‘smart’ technology built in, with Raybans infused with Meta technology in the lead, but not everyone is in favor of the glasses that not only connect to the internet and your phone, but can capture and record the images and words of people around you.
For privacy reasons, MSC Cruises, has now banned the device from public spaces on its ships, allowing them only in cabins and ashore. “Smart glasses and similar devices are listed among prohibited items to ensure our security teams can intervene and confiscate the device if misuse occurs,” MSC said in an emailed statement. “This measure is in place solely to protect the privacy and safety of all guests and crew.”
While others are likely to follow that pattern in future, not all companies are. Carnival, for instance, only bans them from gangway operations, and Delta Air Lines prohibits employees but not passengers from using them.
