My wife and I came across this interesting piece of street art while wandering the streets of Reno. It’s an impressive 17-foot-tall sculpture. The work is named Tara Mechani and was crafted by San Francisco artist Dana Albany.
The statue blends the female Buddhist deity Tara (symbol of compassion and empathy) with a futuristic female robot. Inside is a custom-built chandelier. The piece has roughly 80% recycled machine parts — hinges, keys, door handles, gears and other artifacts.
The piece was originally created for Burning Man in 2017, and later installed along Reno’s public-art corridor on West Fourth Street. I thought it quite clever.
