Star Trek cruise to mark 60 years in space

A number of now-much-older members of the crew that set out “to boldly go where no man has gone before” will gather somewhere fairly familiar early next year, on the ninth edition of Star Trek: The Cruise.

Joining the Trekkies aboard (there’s room for 3,800 of them) will be the original Starfleet captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner in real life) and Walter Koenig, who was Ensign Chekov in his younger days. Since the cruise celebrates the show’s 60th anniversary, it should be no surprise to learn that Shatner is 93 and Koenig is 89.

The week-long cruise in maritime space will take place aboard not the Enterprise but on Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas, sailing from Orlando on Feb. 20, with stops in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas.

Other Star Trek actors will join the ship for portions of the cruise, including Bobby Clark (The Gorn), Sean Kenney (Captain Pike), Sandra Gimpel (The Salt Vampire), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T. Riker), John de Lancie (Q), Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi), Nana Visitor (Kira Nerys), Terry Farrell (Jadzia Dax), Sonequa Martin-Green (Michael Burnham) and Anthony Rapp (Paul Stamets).
