I’ll say spouting because it’s nicer than thinking this mythical creature is spitting at me!
It’s one of a pair flanking the St Michel fountain at Place St Michel on the Right Bank, not far from Notre Dame.
Created in 1860, it’s the work of Alfred Jacquemart, a sculptor who is also known for his realistic sculptures of animals, including the rhinoceros and hippopotamus that adorn the forecourt of the Musee d’Orsay
Arrived in Paris again this morning, and was surprised to see the St Michel fountain behind a screen for repair work, with only the two chimera statues visble under a giant Samsung ad!
