Came across this car while visiting the small town of Creston in south-eastern British Columbia.
It’s clearly a Mercury, as indicated on the front grill. I snapped some photos and did a little research on the car. Turns out that the distinct dual-sided front grill was only produced in the 1942 model year. Because the car was manufactured during the World War II years, when steel was at a premium, production was quite limited. When production was ramped up after the war, Mercury retained the body shape but had a very different grille configuration.
It’s a great car, with a customized padded convertible roof, lime-green paint job, custom wheels and lights — a beautiful custom street rod.
