With Spain starting to cautiously lift its lockdown restrictions, plans are being rolled out to maintain social distance on the beaches, with capacity limits andd some unique hardware solutions.
In some areas, towns are setting aside beaches based on age, or setting up reservation systems for beach spots to avoid crowding. Different towns are adapting different measures for how much space is needed per person; the most stringent idea, 25 metres per person, would reduce capacity by 90%, but most are thinking of less.
One of the most detailed plans, from the town of Sanxexno in Galicia, where its Silgar beach (above) is being set up with cordoned off sections marked out by wooden posts and color-coded ropes that can be moved to accommodate different-sized groups, with ‘public’ strips for walking and playing in the water.
