Spain’s national register of short-term rentals and its clampdown on unlisted or illegal vacation apartments is apparently having a significant effect.
Data from Spain’s National Statistics Institute says that In November 2025, there were 329,764 holiday apartments throughout the country, down 12.4% from a year before, and 13.6% fewer than just before the registry took effect in July.
The number of tourist accommodation is the lowest since February 2023; the peak was in August 2024, when there were over 400,000. Although tourist apartments are only 1.24% of Spain’s, the sector has been the focus of many protests around the country.
