Some Street Murals in Boise, Idaho

One of the things I noticed while exploring downtown Boise was some very fine street murals, often covering the entire walls of buildings.  Many of these are filled with nice details.  I did some research into three of these, and wanted to share them with you.

“Absence & Presence”

Absence & Presence” Painted in 2018 by Portland-based artist David Carmack Lewis.  It depicts two historic homes that stood on this site before the current apartments were built, now appearing as “ghosts” against the Idaho sky.

“Over the Valley”

“Over the Valley“, also by Portland-based David Carmack Lewis, who painted it in 2020.  It’s a landscape inspired by the South Fork of the Payette River valley in central Idaho.  Note the chair sitting on a hilltop — an invitation for viewers to slow down and enjoy the state’s great scenery.

“Symbols of Idaho”

“Symbols of Idaho” is an unusual mural created by Yulia Avgustinovich, a Belarus-born muralist who lives in Colorado.  It was painted in early 2021.  The mural highlights some of the natural symbols of the state, including flora (flowers and plants) and fauna (birds, deer, coyote, bear).

Some closer details of the mural are seen below, including the top one which was featured in last weekend’s One Clue Mystery photo.  As usual, it was recognized by George G.
