The Sunshine Skyway Bridge, spanning the entrance of Tampa Bay, opened in 1987. I believe it was the first major bridge of its type in the United States, and it is still one of the longest. It was built when the previous Skyway Bridge collapsed after being struck by a freighter in 1980. I must say that personally, I find these bridges majestic and beautiful.
