Singapore’s National Environment Administration is putting up two $5 million grant programs whose goal is to improve cleanliness of toilets at coffee shops.
The grant aims to encourage operators to undertake renovations and achieve certification under an upcoming Happy Toilet Programme standard for coffee shops. The standard will be developed by the Restroom Association (Singapore) (RAS)–a non-profit which aims to build an “excellent restroom culture”
The first grant pool, the Coffee Shop Toilet Renovation Grant allows owners to apply for up to $50,000 to cover 95% of the costs of renovations to the facilities. The other, the Coffee Shop Toilet Deep Cleaning Grant, provides 95% of cost up to $25,000 to provide the shop with a two-year contract for regular deep cleaning. The Ministry of Sustainability and Environment added that “Successful grant applicants will also receive complimentary on-site toilet cleaning training at their coffee shops for in-house cleaners.”
