Signs of Amsterdam

Regular readers of our website might remember that I enjoy studying and photographing signs.  I find that signage can tell you a lot about a destination.

So it was in Amsterdam, a city with liberal views about sex and drugs, but which also has a lot of typical European traditions.

Here are some of the signs I saw while rambling around Amsterdam….

A bakery specializing in croissants
Jan Steen was a 17th century artist from the Golden Age of painting, known for his fun-filled everyday scenes

Bike rental shop
A popular snack shop selling, among other things, herring

Coffee shops are places where you can legally buy and use drugs. It’s not where you go if you want a meal.

A cafe is where you would go for food.

Can’t remember the last time I saw a rubber stamp store
