Shanghai Disney tix soon…but prices will vary

Disney’s first mainland China park will open near Shanghai on June 16, but you may want to wait until after the summer to take advantage of off-peak prices. In a policy mirroring changes happening in U.S. theme parks, the price of tickets will vary with demand.

The huge park, which will have six themed areas, two hotels, a shopping district and 99 acres of gardens and parkland, with lakes, will charge $76 a day on peak-demand days, and $56 on slower weekdays, starting after the summer.

Disney built the park with a Chinese partner, Shanghai Shendi Group; together the companies have put about $5.5 billion into the project. They expect it to be popular with China’s growing middle class, which has money for entertainment, but is thought to be short of attractions to spend it on.
