Bannerman Castle
Taking the Amtrak train home from Albany, I have the chance to look watch the passing Hudson River, and found some pretty cool sights. Above is Bannerman Castle. It was built in 1901 to serve as a residence for Francis Bannerman IV, who also used to island to store munitions he bought from Spain before it left Cuba.
At the northern end of the Hudson there were many boats out on the river, including these, which seemed to be anchored pretty far out from shore. Among them, there was also a barge carrying a large crane up-river.
The train also passes under several major bridges as it travels along the river. Here, the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, which carries I-84 across the Hudson, looms over the tracks.
Finally, as we passed headed south under the Bear Mountain Bridge, i saw a tug pushing a fuel barge in the opposite direction.
