I do like some of these features the hotels are coming out with going after the Millennial age group. Peter Greenberg wrote about some of the hotels features too. http://petergreenberg.com/2014...ned-for-millennials/

Re: Where do the "permanent travelers" go?

PortMoresby ·
I have one friend who's a permanent traveler. While he spends time in a variety of places, his preference is Asia, with Thailand at the top of his list. Chiang Mai is where we met and in nearby villages is where he spends the majority of his time. He has a private income so work has nothing to do with his choice. I'd be interested to see how the results of the survey would change if that element was removed from the equation. And how it would change if broken down by age group. Also, how...

Nature has so many works of art that sometimes you need to stop and breath. Like so many photographers of nature - you need a keen eye to capture that precious moment. I once found that perfect scene and took a photo of each member of the family standing in for a "Portrait Picture" Until I was asked by a group of maybe 20 people to move along ! I'd started a Kodak Moment where there was just a passing glance 20 minutes ago !

Dgems, thanks so much for the addition. Just so everyone knows, Dgems was part of our group and we were taking pictures at the same time. I hadn't noticed the 'Peace Flame' tulip and she pointed it out to me, I believe shortly after she took this picture. It was a very good day!

Re: Banff National Park: Hiking to Boom Lake

DrFumblefinger ·
Thanks, GarryRF. Bear attacks are about as common as lightening hitting folks, but it does happen. I've never encountered a bear while hiking except at a distance (could see them across a valley for instance). Here's what you do to be bear safe 1) Follow the park rules. They're very good about placing warnings (eg. trail closed, bear hovering over a carcass) 2) Hike in tight groups of four or more. Bears have never attacked a group of people this large 3) Avoid baby bears. If you see one,...

Thank you! I visited Spain in July, and temperatures were around 30-35 degrees. Pretty hot At the time, I didn't have a good camera with me, so I only took photos with my phone. I could add a few more. I will probably add a post on my blog about my time in Spain. Originally Posted by GarryRF: Great pictures - I hope you can add some more ! Re: Airbnb's plans for business travelers

As an Airbnb user, and also a host, again I have the feeling that the company, while tooting their "community" horn, has again proceeded with changes to the site with no input from users, but rather as conceived by the designers working in their own little world. Particularly as a host, it regularly becomes a case of "you can't get there from here". This interview is an example, telling us that corporate users will be directed only to entire properties, rather than all properties available...

You are correct, GarryRF. There have been a number of movies filmed in the park. Lifted straight from Wikipedia , here is a listing of these: Film History : Valley of Fire is a popular location for shooting automobile commercials and other commercial photography. It has provided a setting for the following films and television shows: The Professionals with Burt Lancaster , Lee Marvin , and Claudia Cardinale was filmed in 1966. Re: China amusement park gets full-size Titanic

I'm sure there is...they're proud of their shipbuilding industry. There's also a "Made-in-Britain" objection to one aspect of the project. It seems the new Titanic comes with a shake-and-rumble-and-flashing-lights simulator to give the feeling of hitting an iceberg and give visitors a fear they are drowning. Some descendants of Titanic passengers have objected ( MORE ). Su Shaojun, head of the group behind the project, said the aim was to “spread the spirit of the Titanic."

This conversation reminds me of a day I was photographing a very popular garden in England and I was waiting for one woman to get out of the frame. What I hadn't noticed as I watched her was that a group was forming behind me, not impatient with me, but waiting with me. Finally, a woman said "come on, move along" to the woman taking her time, who was too far away to hear, and we all laughed. It was a very nice moment with a group of very nice people, as garden people tend to be. I did...

Hi HistoryDigger. We always get the leader of the Animation Team - he organises the shows and dancing inside the hotel. He knows all the local places of interest. Obviously It depends on which region you'll be visiting. He'll organise a 12 seat Hyundai van for the day 8 - 4pm. Including gas and driver it costs us around $200 equivalent. (Divide that by 10 in the group) Lunch in a restaurant another $15 each. Nice tip for the driver when you start off and he'll be your friend for ever ! The...

Another angle to this came to the front of my mind recently. A female friend is doing a solo walk along a long distance trail through very unpopulated areas. She attracted a lot of followers from her Instagram prepping, but soon became aware of a group of supportive women hikers advising her about known unwanted followers. In particular she was advised not to post locations until they were long past so it would be more difficult to track her movements. This could equally apply to any form of...

No one has quite figured out where Gumbo is, so I'd like to give you a look at the town Gumbo's visiting. Below we have a group of weary travelers arriving at our destination, after a lengthy uphill climb.... The town has an amazing grouping of prayer wheels.... ...and prayers etched on rocks beside the trails. Does this help you figure out where Gumbo is?

I'm curious...Did the focus group favor it? On the Sunset Limited last summer, without even WiFi, I saw quite a few people with DVD players, so I'd imagine a streaming service would be popular. Even though the best entertainment was the window!

Thanks for the note, Chatterbot2. Yes, Quebec is relatively under-touristed, especially when compared to Europe. If you want to visit a 400 year old European stype fortress, don't want to fly across the Atlantic, want to go to place where French is the dominant language, want great food and friendly folks, then Quebec City should be at the top of your travel list.

Monsieur, vous êtes très gentil de le dire. I do try to make a stab at the local language wherever I travel. Around the world, people are amazingly patient with my mangling of their language. It does create good entertainment. Almost always, my puzzled efforts put people at ease. They are instantly willing to help "the poor confused thing".

It's been a great game, Gumbo fans, and you've now pinned it to the wall. Tuesday morning's post will confirm your correct answer, with more details. It was fun playing with the group. In answer to the question: I've only been to Kaliningrad twice, both times on paper. Most recently, I was reading Tatiana, and was struck by Smith's comments on the rebuilding of churches, partly as vanity projects of the new capitalist class. When I came to the chapter in which Renko is attacked at the...

PHeymont, what happens, directionally speaking, when one reaches the other end of the bridge? In other words, where does it go from the end of what we can see? It appears to end, the bridge to nowhere, but I doubt Mr. Eiffel would be so impractical (although I suppose the building at the other end might have been put up after he left town). Do tell.
