My family all climbed to the peak of Malham Tarn in Yorkshire. England. Quite an achievement - 4 hours - but you had that feeling of self satisfaction completing it. When I offered all the kids a drink from my rucksack they all refused. "Dad - could we have something from that Ice Cream van ?" A major road passed within 20 feet. The moral of the story being - Had we driven there for an Ice Cream - then 20 years later - No one would remember our day out ! Malham Tarn Yorkshire England

I love visiting this aquarium, too, Samantha! The shark tank is extremely cool and there are lots of interesting exhibits to explore -- especially fun with kids. Still, my personal favorite is the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

I've only just recently relocated to the Northwest (I was hoping to be in Seattle but company changed my location), but I'm close enough to love it. One place I've been for one of the best meals ever is Ray's Boathouse. It was really great fish and right on the water at the edge of the city.

Hiking to Sol Duc Falls in Olympic National Park
Olympic National Park is home to several short hikes with magnificent payoffs. The 1.6-mile trek to-and-from Sol Duc Falls is near the top of Olympic NP's long list of great trails. As many times as I've visited Vancouver, I've never been to the top of this tower. Will have to make a point of doing so when I'm next there on a clear day. Vancouver is perhaps the most beautiful city in the world (I know, many places are), but the setting is absolutely magnificent. Sadly, it's been overpopulated and is now one of the most expensive cities in North America. But it still is lovely, as your blog so clearly shows. Thanks, Samantha!

So glad that you and Gene had a good time. Vancouver is a beautiful city but as the good Doctor mentioned it has become overpopulated and expensive. Looks like you had some very nice weather though. Dining in the tower is a great way to enjoy the view. The last time I did that was in the early 80s. Happy belated Anniversary as well.
