Gumbo was visiting the very interesting and remote Kennecott Mines National Historic Landmark, adjoining Wrangell-St. Elias National Park in Alaska.

Are you sure that was black bear scat? Grizzlies are the more common bears in the area....

I walked the first visit, up the footpath through the woods from McCarthy accompanied by the frisson of fresh black bear scat. I took the road on subsequent trips !
