Bok Kai Temple, a California registered landmark and national treasure, was built in 1880, the oldest Taoist temple in the United States.

Marysville, like many old mining towns, was once thriving but now is mostly abandoned. There are a few homes and businesses that are occupied, but many of the structures in town appear abandoned.
