Re: Where in the World is TravelGumbo? (#87)

Re: Update: Loyalty Programs and Credit Cards

PortMoresby ·
A very useful bunch of information, PHeymont. I've been an AA/Citibank cardholder for over 8 years now and am a satisfied customer. I realize I might squeeze more points out if I open new accounts but I prefer to not have to think too much, be the tortoise and concentrate on piling up the points in 1 place by putting every possible purchase on the card, never spending more than I normally would. Also, when making large purchases, all other aspects being equal, I choose a company that accepts...

Re: Brady Bunch House (Where Gumbo was #363)

DrFumblefinger ·
I do remember watching that show and seeing the setting shots of this house. I'm a little surprised that it's the second most photographed in the USA. I would have thought that might belong to Graceland (Elvis Presley's home).

Re: Brady Bunch House (Where Gumbo was #363)

Travel Rob ·
The Brady Bunch was a huge success after it went into syndication I remember it being on constantly in the 70's as a kid. And it's stayed popular through the years. The HGTV series on the renovation last year was the channels most successful to date bringing in more than 28 million total viewers.

Re: Road Trips with Kids: 5 Things that Will Help You Make Them Safe and Fun

Paul Heymont ·
Thanks! Not only a bunch of good ideas, but also revived memories of years ago, traveling with our 4 kids in an undersized Ford Fairmont station wagon. We joke that we had to stop every half hour to let the hostility out, but the truth is that an assortment of fruit, nuts, songs and especially games made it work. The games includes not just alphabet and license plate spotting, but free-range imagination games such as "I'm going abroad, and with me I am taking..."

Re: Oct. 20, 2016 The Callanish Stones, Scotland

Paul Heymont ·
It's always seemed to me that new faiths and cultures getting started absorb some of the symbols, and often ideas or practices, of predecessors, so it doesn't surprise me to find pre-Christian crosses and the like. I'm only surprised that no one has come along since and built a big church on the spot... Your point about the far north folk interested me; in Iceland, at an ethnographic exhibit, we learned that many of the early settlers, back around 950, came not directly from Scandinavia, but...

Re: British cycle network to shrink

Professorabe ·
This move essentially just acknowledges that there never was a 16,000 mile network of cycle paths in the first place. Cycling activity has greatly increased during the pandemic and people are increasingly demanding safe routes/arrangements for cyclists. The politicians give the impression that they are listening - although, from experience, that doesn't mean much (especially as far as the current bunch is concerned)! However, it is just possible that something positive will emerge from the...

Re: Canada snowbirds win medical victory

GarryRF ·
I run the Facebook site for 2 Hotels in Cuba and many Snowbirds who've been returning for 20 years to the same Hotel are chomping at the bit to be first back. Some Snowbirds get a great price for a 3 months stay. Many retired visitors give Covid no consideration. If you're going to get it you will anyway. Brave bunch.
