Re: Motel 6 freshens its rooms...and its image

DrFumblefinger ·
I used to stay at Motel 6 when I was a poor starving medical student. But I abandoned the chain because of how inconsistent the different sites were. Some a offered a decent room. Others were dives. Hopefully along with the face lift there will be an greater effort to standardize their properties. For example, when I'm I stay at a Courtyard, I know exactly what to expect and am never disappointed.

Re: Where in the World is Gumbo #10

Paul Heymont ·
This is getting to be a bi-weekly announcement: WorkerBee zoomed in on the statue of the Sacred Heart in the background of the picture and searched for it online, and correctly identified the scene as the courtyard of the Cathedral in Cuernavaca, Mexico. The good news is that WorkerBee has some mysterious pictures of his own, and when the time comes he will join the ranks of the puzzlers! In the meantime, see tomorrow morning's "reveal" with more information about Where Gumbo Was.

Re: The Forbidden City - Beijing China

Paul Heymont ·
Interesting your comparison to Versailles, on size (which omits the gardens, of course). The comparison that came to my mind was Topkapi, in Istanbul, where a series of courtyards encloses a huge space, with increasingly restricted access to each. In the first courtyard there were troops, palace services and more; the second was restricted to government officials and prominent visitors, in the third only the highest officials of the Sultan and in the last, only the family and its servants.

Re: France, Britain at swords points over croissants

PortMoresby ·
Sacrebleu!! I'm reading an article about famous French baker, Frédéric Pichard, (best croissant in Paris 2011). I direct readers to the photo of the croissant served to the author in the courtyard of the bakery. http://www.farine-mc.com/2014/...rederic-pichard.html Could this mean M. Pichard, too, should be thrown out of the European Union?
