Ethiopia has actually one of them oldest Christian community in the world. You find those amazing churches in Lalibela, but also in the Tigray area (which I haven't visited yet... But will do in November) Ethiopia is one of the most stunning and rewarding countries I have ever traveled Cheers, Gilles

Wow ... it's been a year. I remember this WITW being the toughest. I didn't find the answer until the very last day. I had to follow Google Earth Street View throughout almost all of Scandinavia to find this place. A Great WITW ! TRAVEL ROB put me to a severe test.

Norway is a great country for a road trip. There are so many cool places you'll discover that Norwegians love to travel to that are not from the "Norway in a Nutshell" tours that many international travelers go on.

We thought the Slea Head on the Dingle Peninsula was one of our five most beautiful places on the planet. We stopped at the Slea Head Cafe for a latte, a brownie, and the VIEW. It is GORGEOUS. We just sat in the sun and gazed at the Great Blaskett Islands.

The drive around the Dingle Peninsula is one of the most extraordinary I've ever done. This was just the sampler post -- more to follow. But it certainly is the most historic day trip I've ever been on. Glad you liked it as much as I did rbciao!

Three more comments concerning Dingle: 1. Leaving the wharf/tourist area in Dingle and walking uphill into the central part of the town was very interesting in that we could interact with the locals and leave the hustle & bustle of the lower part of town. We stopped at a neat cafe for coffee called the Frog St. Cafe and we were the only non-locals in the place. 2. Between Dingle town and Slea Head is the Stone House Restaurant, which overlooks the bay and an ancient fort. The restaurant...

Re: Wandering in Prague

Lovely pictures. I appreciate knowing the details too. My family and I spent a week in Prague and and enjoyed every slow day. We rented an Old Town apartment through VRBO and were happy with the quiet, rooftop location three minutes to the square but quieted enough not to feel pressed by tourists. Lobokicz Palace museum was a highlight for us all. http://www.lobkowicz.cz/en/

Interesting tour DrF. Other than a living museum does the mission have a function today ? Very comprehensive collection of photos and well described too. There must be a long and interesting story to these missions - other than teaching religion. Fascinating history of a new country. Thanks.

Thanks the comment Garry. Yes the mission still functions as a place of worship. But the main place of worship is the new basilica which is right next door. Today it is mostly a museum.

Re: Where Gumbo Watched the Sun Rise (Puzzle #20)

Acadia is one of the few "main" US National Parks I've yet to visit. A serious gap in my travel map.... Having just spent a large number of hours on an Air Canada flight to and from South America, I found it interesting to read the claim that Acadia sees the first USA Sunrise. The ads on the AirCanada video screens from Newfoundland made it very clear that if you want to see the first sunrise in North America, you need to go there instead. That is something I hope to do soon as well.

Re: The Maltese Islands – Underrated gems or best kept secret ?

IslandMan ·
Hello F-car, people mainly use their cars to get around, which is a pity as the roads are not the best and there are far too many cars for the roads to cope with. There is an extensive bus network which I found more preferable to driving. Boats are used more for leisure but there are many fisherman who make their living from the sea. Although the Maltese have their own language, English is widely spoken and visitors get by without problems. Many locals also speak Italian (them being our...
