ProfessorAbe wonders whether these real-life Indian stepwells may have been an inspiration for M.C. Escher, but they certainly impressed ProfessorAbe!

These stepwells are really quite amazing to see. They're quite deep and the stairs are very steep. Makes me think I'd fall to my death fetching a bucket of water. Thanks, Professor!

I could spend a few days there with my "slinky" chasing down the steps. But just looking at the photos gives me a dizzy spell !!

DrFumblefinger visits one of India's fascinating and ancient stepwells, this one Chand Baori, in the village of Abaneri, Rajasthan.

I remember being gob-smacked when I set eyes on this one. Our driver had never heard of it and also seemed very impressed. Superb photos!
