Hi Garry. Regarding your comment, I think the Victorian era was one that was "special" in world history. It was a time when the sun never set on the British empire and the British influence on the world (mostly good in my opinion -- a common language, parliamentary goverance, etc) was at its peak. I don't think we'll have an Elizibethian II era nor a Charles era.

It's good news for travelers and for Denmark. It shows budget travelers do contribute too. I haven't been to Denmark yet but I thought Sweden was very reasonable. Now Norway is pricey, but its so well worth seeing.

We enjoy camping here. And we have our own equipment. And we can put it up in 10 minutes too. But going to an area of Europe and getting budget accommodation that's central to exploring Paris - Berlin - Munich - Marseilles - St Tropez - Brussels - the Spanish Costa's etc and all at a budget price. With toilets - showers - hairdryers - on site stores for wine and food - then even the Ladies can't complain. And a car park so you can be off touring the caves and vineyards. Staying in a Budget...

Norwegian Air Shuttle got their EU flight license approved for their Irish subsidiary airline ,Norwegian International ,in Feb. 2014. Under the Open Skies agreement, they should be allowed to fly between EU countries and the US. How the DOT is justifying taking over two years to approve their foreign carrier permit, when it normally takes a month, I don't know.

During my visit to Santiago it rained every day...I was constantly running from shelter to shelter...I really enjoy looking at your beautiful photos...I saw many of the same landmarks, but can now see what they would have looked like on a beautiful sun-filled day! Excellent work!

Your photo needs tumbleweeds blowing in front of the still unfinished terminal. I'm not sure if it possible to screw up a construction project more than this airport. A shameful waste of German Euros and, I'm sure, when sun shines on the issue we'll find many layers of graft and corruption, as well as obvious incompetence.

We thought the Slea Head on the Dingle Peninsula was one of our five most beautiful places on the planet. We stopped at the Slea Head Cafe for a latte, a brownie, and the VIEW. It is GORGEOUS. We just sat in the sun and gazed at the Great Blaskett Islands.

Thanks Ottoman for sharing your Sun Studios visit. I was there in 2007 and enjoyed every magic moment of it. My wife had to drag me away after the third day as we had to move on to our next destination (!). Being there was like stepping into the shoes of all the musical greats who had passed through those doors. My music collection has an abundance of Sun recordings and they are still my favorites.

In the end, I've gone with a camera that is bigger than I hoped (but I wasn't going to get all my wishes in a compact...I knew that). I've gotten a Sony HX300, with more zoom than I imagine I'll need (50x), 20Mp and Zeiss lenses. It's one of those "bridge" cameras; looks like a DSLR but lens doesn't change and viewfinder is not optical, but electronic. In fact, it's a miniature of the LCD, viewed through an eyepiece...but that's fine when the sun is too bright. AND, the LCD pulls away from...

Well, when you're in Vegas for your anniversary sometime GarryRF, spring for the Bellagio for even just one night and let your beloved wife see the fountain show from that side of the street! I enjoy Vegas in small snippets -- 2-3 days every few years is about perfect. Great place to meet friends, eat well and enjoy a show. Gamble if you want, though I find it too painful to have my wallet stripped that way. I like to go there in the spring and fall so I can head into the surrounding desert...

Sounds like the new Boeing Dreamliner . When the Captain decides it's bedtime - he darkens all the windows to an inky shade of blue. You miss the sunrise and sunset. The amazing scenes of clouds on fire as the sun reaches the horizon. The spectrum of blue to deep orange as the morning sun puts on its best show of the day - at sunrise. Sounds too claustrophobic for me !

The spelling of "Harbor" indicates the US, and the angle of the sun suggests the southern half. I suspect if it were California, there are Travel Gumbo bloggers who would have recognised it by now. There is a flag with a single star - could this be an old version of the flag of Texas? So what about the Texas coast somewhere?

In the UK at twilight we get Starlings gathering for a dance just as the sun has set. 60 - 100 thousand gather to perform a spectacular formation dance in many locations. Looks like a great hike DrF. I have taken a liking to the circular trail that keeps offering new vistas rather than the "there and back" routes. 6k sounds just right for a lazy day stroll in the sun. And so much to see too ! I'm looking forward to all these trails when I retire ! But I'm always aware of the old adage "The mind is willing - but the flesh is weak" So I'll keep training - ready to rumble !

Hi Garry, if you came in the mid of Canadian winter, the glacier ice field will look no difference to rest of the country . So, walk on the glacier ice under the hot summer sun is much more thrill! Yes, during last visit, we were told that the Columbia Ice Field glacier is receding.

Garry -- that's like saying stay at home with the kids and play in their kiddy pool instead of taking them to see the ocean. It was a hard but most fascinating trip. Standing on the roof of Africa, watching the sun rise above the clouds (which are thousands of feet below you) is an experience I'll never forget! But having done it once, I'm not going back anytime soon.

I always like to bring my travel notes for the plane ride to review my trip . My notes used to be a guidebook, but I have been printing out forums and blogs now I tend to read the guidebooks long before I go . On my next trip I'm going to save some TG blogs on my tablet !
