Thanks for a great (virtual) meal! I love street food (and near-street) and just enjoyed a similar experience in Istanbul, where I put aside my "issues" with some foods and tried all...including my equivalent of the worm: kokorek, a dish of lamb or goat intestines roasted around sweetbreads. It's amazing how much of our hesitation can be in our heads, not in reality... Hope to see more about Vietnam!

That sure looks like a tasty evening, Linn! I've done a few food tours in my life and really enjoyed them. The guides know where the great spots are and you get a nice background narrative about the dish, the restaurant and the chef! Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thank you both for the feedback. I really think tasting the local food is an important part of the travel experience, even though I then have to taste a few strange things... And usually, I end up being pleasantly surprised that the thinks I was hesitating to taste, actually was really good. Heading to Thailand tomorrow, and I am sure I will be challenged a few times during my two weeks there :-)

I have to disagree with Megan McArdle on this.US Domestic fares and fees have been going up because of less competition in airline fares because of the mergers. The public has few reasonable alternatives.

One thing I wish St Augustine would do a better job is telling what role St Augustine played in the Civil Rights Movement. Martin Luther King got arrested in St Augustine on June 11th 1964 after picketing. His charge was unlawful assembly and civil disobedience. Thanks Travel Rob. In fact there are several info boards in and around Plaza de la Constitucion that do discuss the civil rights era history. Not just MLK's arrest, but more than one large demonstration that took place.

There are info boards at the beaches too but certain things they didn't preserve, like the Monsoon Motor Lodge, now a Hilton. Martin Luther King Ave, Downtown is one street named after Dr. King where he had marched.

You've made my New Year's resolution for me: to stop waiting and go visit! The story is as fascinating as the building. My father's family lived nearby in the 1910s, though I have no idea if they actually went there, and I used to pass by in the mid-1960s, with never a thought to what the interior might be. Can I like the blog twice?

Great to see that part of NYC education involved learning about other religions. A couple years ago, one of our Virginia counties in a strict bible belt area had a parental uprising that stifled a similar program when the school tried to familiarize students about non Christian religions.

Great piece! I've started strolling again on the Champs-Elysees on recent trips. Some auto showrooms have some great small car related gifts, like key chains . The area seems really safe late at night too and I enjoy it

I guess I will have to give it another chance...the section from the Rond Point to the arch have sometimes seemed like an unpleasant mix of Fifth Avenue and Times Square, so we've been giving that section a pass!

A good place for an evening stroll, unless their youngsters are out rioting. The Champs is a favorite place for this. The area around the arch is very developed but fun to window-shop, and that's where all the car showrooms are.

We were just in New York a few weeks ago and really enjoyed walking around lower Manhattan area. Spent a lot of time in Battery Park. Looks forward to going back and exploring this area more soon. Thanks for the happy memories

This is a great piece! I love walking around Downtown LA. Little Tokyo has really changed over the years and for the last 5 or 6 years is a very trendy spot. I love the Central Library too. So many neat places.

Not the most artistic - but something that makes you think. And each admirer will add their own interpretation to what it symbolises. You could just sit there and watch the faces of kids who've never seen it before, and watch their faces light up with bewilderment. Street art. Love it.
