Re: ANA Japan flight becomes flight to nowhere

PortMoresby ·
When I worked in a library, checking in returned books to be reshelved sometimes the scanner would beep even though the barcode hadn't actually registered in the computer. So if we didn't watch the screen, but depended on the sound, occasionally a book would still be checked out as far as the system was concerned. A long-winded way of pointing out that may be akin to what happened in the case of the ANA passenger.

Re: ANA Japan flight becomes flight to nowhere

Paul Heymont ·
That was close to my guess...scanner doesn't beep, agent looks at boarding pass, sees LA to Tokyo and date, and United (which had codeshare on the flight) and waved him on. Might even have glanced at list and seen brother's similar name.

Re: How Dumb can you be? Things not to say to the TSA

Travel Rob ·
I hope Airfarewatchdog publishes a fun list for the TSA screeners on what not to say to us. Sometimes ,when i opt out, the screeners act like it's first time somebody chose to that.Other times ,I feel like they are trying to sell me a timeshare to get me to use the scanner. My biggest issue though when I opt out is my carry- on luggage goes through security while I'm waiting for the patdown on the other side. And from the other side you cant see whats happening to your bag. I opted out at...

Adobe Scan: an ace app for travelers

Paul Heymont ·
I'd like to put in a word here for an app I wish I hadn't needed—although I expect it to be useful in the future, too. In Basel, Switzerland, on a Sunday and needing to submit documents to travel insurance, I had no access to a fax or a scanner. Only my Android phone. A quick search turned up Adobe Scan, a free app that uses your phone camera to turn documents into PDFs, and can even recognize text and turn them into Word documents.
