Re: Best and Worst U.S. airports: No surprises
I believe Airports should be judged solely on whether you had a pleasant experience. There is no way Orlando isn't in the Top10. New York is a disgrace. But I pass through as an alien - US residents see no problem. Philadelphia is a dream. Excellent Airport.

If your looking to get to Europe for the holiday season on the Dreamliner cheap, this deal is too good to pass up. From Brussels, it's normally pretty cheap to get to Paris,London or Amsterdam.

Re: Bangkok still #1, but most-visited list shifts
It’s all in the methodology: these figures are based, as stated, on overnight hotel stays. A quick look tells me that a very different measure is used for the figures that place Orlando at 72 million last year, with 62.8 million in NYC and 42.2 in Las Vegas. Once again, the question is ‘what’s being measured,’ and I’d love to see an expert explain the choices made in the two calculations!

Re: Air Miles vs Low Fare Airline
We flew Norwegian in May, Orlando-Oslo and were really impressed. The 787 made such a difference and we arrived feeling fresh. The moister air, bigger windows and lighting made a world of difference in how we felt post trip. We brought a decent sized carry-on and personal bag each for free too. As far other extra fees, we didn't pay any. They charge for food or drinks, but we just bought those at the airport. And I think they also charge for blankets, but we brought jackets to cover with and...

Great blog idea! I remember when my kids were young (they're all in 30s and 40s now, bad weather was always one of the issues on vacation, and we had to scramble for things to do that would keep them occupied and happy. Some of your ideas here look great for adults and kids!

That bookstore really looks appealing to me....always one of my favorite destinations on a rainy day. That, and a library. I love visiting libraries in cities when I visit. The quality of a town's libraries tells me a lot of that city's priorities.

Re: World's 10 Best Airports? Maybe...
I totally disagree with the list. It's partly because I'm more budget focused and partly because it takes less time and hassle at the smaller airports. My favorite airports are small ones where security is reasonable and you dont need to be there hours in advance. My tops would include John Lennon( Liverpool) Sanford near (Orlando) and Marseilles, France

Re: Signs of Boston
Lovely walkable city. The trains were a great way to get around too. Just move along one station at a time and pop up out of the underground railway for another look around. Around Quincy Market was very strange. It was St Patricks day and the sun was shining. The sellers were wearing shorts and T-shirts. But around the corner the sun hadn't made any impression. It was still in the shade after a long winter. Snow was everywhere and the market traders wore hats and coats. Around the next...

Re: Behind the Rides: Orlando leads U.S. in visits and low-wage jobs
I am not sure if an employee working in tourism in NYC would have a higher quality of life even if paid more. Orlando at least is cheap. Also many folks in the tourist trade make a lot of their earnings from tips which rarely are fully reported as income. So I never know what to make of studies like this

Re: Flood of new agents to speed up Customs at JFK and Newark
You're both right of course. No one has the moral high ground on delays. When you transit an airport with several terminals you do need to enter the country first. But hub airports like Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bahrain have all been so polite and helpful it makes you realise that there is a better way. I use Philadelphia airport now to enter the US. It rates alongside Orlando as a pleasant experience. Last year I went through passport control in Philly. When asked, I told the officer that...

Re: Visitor Totals: The "Ears" Eat the "Apple"
Interesting piece, Paul. I believe that both are actually drawing more people than Paris (France) is as well. I don't see much of an overlap in the target populations these cities draw from. Orlando is very clearly family-oriented, with multiple theme parks. More of a budget destination, although with admissions at the parks being what they are, not that cheap anymore. New York City a big cosmopolitan attraction. Most folks would consider it too expensive for "family travel".

Re: Visitor Totals: The "Ears" Eat the "Apple"
I think Orlando is a big pull for overseas travelers as well, which bodes well for them. Length of stay is an issue, especially, for New York; I think we get people on a shorter stay because of the cost. For overseas travelers, I think NY and Orlando are often both on the agenda, based on the questions I used to see on other boards!
