Re: Travel guide for Morocco

Mac ·
The best travel guide that I ever had for Morocco, acquired back in the 1980's, was a very old blue Michelin "Guide Bleu" which I suspect dated back to the mid 1950s. It was great because it went into huge detail about matters and places that were real "history" by the time I read about them. Like many things, I loaned it out but it never came back.... :-) These days I evidently have a very much reduced attention span, rather like a goldfish, and find that the Dorian Kingsley "DK Eyewitness...

Does it actually make sense to hire a car for travelling around Delhi itself? Taxis, tuk-tuks, or the metro might often be more sensible choices. The latter obviously has limitations in terms of the places you can reach easily, but at least you don't get stuck in Delhi's horrendous traffic!

I cannot agree with some of your statements. For instance, I remember a trip to Southern India where we met another couple who had booked the same private tour, but they had gone for the significantly more expensive luxury option whereas we had chosen home-stays. They were actually envious because our guesthouses tended to be in lovely spots right in the middle of the action, while their 5-star concrete bunkers were often in sterile out-of-town locations - and lacked any character. We...

Re: Calling Marie Antoinette: Your $75G-a-night suite is ready!

I have to say that although I could afford to go up a bit, I always look first at the low-end because while the rooms tend to be small, they have the needed facilities, and are more likely to have the wifi and breakfast free. Why pay more; it looks the same in the dark. Different for a resort, I guess... Never been unhappy with an Ibis in Europe, or the Motel 6/Super 8/Comfort Inn type here. I'd rather spend the difference on good food...
