That sure looks like a remarkable and most unique adventure! My book is on order. I just love stories like this. I have to confess that while I don't mind being out in the cold, I hate never really getting warm, so I guess I don't have what it takes to be an Antarctic explorer.

Oddly, I’d only recently read the account of the Belgica expedition, of which Danko was a member. (Madhouse at the End of the Earth by Julian Sancton). Amundsen appears to have been one of the first ppl ever to climb the island’s peak.

Daytime temps were just below freezing point, but in the evening when these photos were taken it was probably 20F (-5C), with cool wind gusts at times. Not bad considering where we were at.
