In a conversation with Travel Rob last week, I set out my minimum conditions before a bailout or other relief can be discussed: 1) All boarding to be by efficiency, no priority for anyone except physical need 2) minimum one free checked bag for all flights over 250 miles (under 250, you should drive or take a train, anyway) 3) elimination of most nuisance fees 4) minimum 32" pitch with no more than 2" recline 5) 20-year cap on exec salaries...CEO to earn max 20x full-time flight attendant...

I am no shopper so I try to make this gift-buying task easy. When I arrive at the large entry airport, I like to stretch my legs, get a cup of takeaway coffee, and cruise the airport gift shops. Almost always, I can find little magnets of the country flag, local tiles, miniature photos, the sports team, or handiwork mounted on refrigerator magnets. I pick up a few of those and am good to go for my visit. One more thing off of my list. Refrigerator magnets are easy to carry, no problem with...

You'll find most Europeans are unsympathetic to the American Tipping Rules. If I cant get the Waitress to get my 2nd cup of Coffee when its supposed to be "free refills" then she gets no tip at all. Same as when someone starts to clear the table while I'm still eating my dinner. Reaching across me and my meal with dirty dishes and napkins. No Tip. If I see the meal I ordered waiting to be collected and sitting there for 5 minutes getting cold - No Tip. And she takes it back to the kitchen.

Thanks for the comment, Jonathan. This would be a good place to watch the Grey Cup. For non-Canadians, that's the Canadian Football league's equivalent to the Superbowl, but with perhaps 1% of the popularity of the Superbowl. Football is not a big sport in Canada. Here it's all about Hockey! Hockey in Canada is about as popular as football and baseball combined in the USA.

Paul, you're beginning to sound like Ben Franklin who wanted the turkey to be the USA's national bird, not the bald eagle. If he'd seen these photos, I'm sure old Ben would have been advocating for the chickens.

Mac, I think your photo is using a tricky angle. I believe there's a small television in front of those 3 donkeys that you've cleverly concealed. Everyone loves World Cup football, even these three! Honestly when I first saw that image it looked to me like they were watching something small near the ground and a television was the first thing that popped into my mind!

On our one trip to Hawaii, we ate in a few top-shelf listed-in-food-mags places, but in the end, my only real culinary memories of Hawaii are all the plate lunches and one incredible loco moco in Hilo... Thanks for bringing back pleasant memories!

Travelling as light as you do it would be an awful burden Rob. I found a lovely bargain today. A Samsung ST 72 camera. It has wifi to view the pix on my TV and its so tiny that I could tuck it into my sock. $50 US and brand new ! Its been in the stores for over a year. So its reduced ! Getting to be a collector I'm afraid ! Sounds just like your "Cup of Tea" though Rob

A love for beverages is a personal and often acquired taste. Others share your feelings about beer. Others feel the same way about wine, hard spirits, coffee or tea. To each, their beverage of choice! I enjoy sampling whatever beverage is popular in a region. For example, when in the hills of Sri Lanka, there's nothing better than a cup of BOPF tea. In Italy, it makes sense to focus on the wine. When in Ireland, you need to try the Guinness and some of their triple distilled whiskey.

Good design is always encouraging, and some of this looks great (especially the cup-holder…no-brainer!) But I notice that the designs use the under-seat space for legroom, which would be great, but only if the airlines can provide enough overhead space that your bag doesn’t need to go there…
