Re: Ryanair's 5-year plan: Trans-atlantic for 10£

Can't happen fast enough for me! The more budget airlines to break into the trans-Atlantic market, the better for the consumer.

But just around the corner, if they succeed, won't we hear the legacy airlines complaining they're being crushed between the ultra-low-cost-carriers and the limousines of the Gulf? Wow, what a fiesta of dueling press conferences that will be!

I love Ryanair for short haul flights but I'm not sure I could 'survive' a trans-Atlantic with that level of comfort. Then again, the trip from Dublin to New York isn't *that* much longer than other flights we've done on Ryanair (e.g., Dublin to Latvia). Perhaps I can be convinced if the price is right ;-)

It's too bad. With two budget airlines making a go of trans-atlantic we might finally of gotten consistant low prices.

Ryanair's 5-year plan: Trans-atlantic for 10£

Paul Heymont ·
The 10£ fare is probably a teaser, but it appears that Ryanair is very serious about finding a way to acquire long-haul planes and enter the U.S. market, flying to 14 cities within five years, according to the Guardian (UK). They plan to serve...

'New Machu Picchu'...but who will benefit?

Paul Heymont ·
Peru is making plans for a cable car link to Kuelap, high in the Andes. Kuelap, centuries older than Machu Picchu, predates the Incas. It's the largest pre-Columbian stone-built city in South America, with over 400 round houses and a 1.5 km stone wall...

I suspect not all visitors to the site will take the easy way, the cable car. Some, no doubt, will continue to take the route through the villages, precisely because it includes the villages. Not everyone is in a hurry. There may be fewer going that way, or maybe not. As more learn of the existence of Kuelap, a certain percentage will opt for the more in-depth experience and it could conceivably increase the number of visitors to the surrounding villages. I wouldn't be surprised. As with...

And hopefully, not the gondola, either!

Certainly the building of the gondola must have created many good jobs, as will maintaining and running it. And as PM has suggested, more tourism to the area will benefit everyone.

Wise advice indeed. You may notice that Brits don't like used towels being left on the floor. When I'm working in someone's home they will always ask first - before bringing a pet into the room. Maybe some people have the same dislike of little brats too ! It's all about respecting your hosts or guests feelings. Good manners.

Gumbo's Pic of the Day, June 10, 2015: Spirit Guardian, Thailand

While in Phuket, one year after the devastating tsunami, I saw several of these on the different beaches along the west coast of the island.  A guide informed us that they were placed to protect people at night from the spirits of those whose lives had been lost in the tsunami.
