A lovely slice of Americana. I think old radios are an under-appreciated art form.

Bah! Humbug! DJ hijacks station to play Last Christmas 24 times in a row

PHeymont ·
It's nearly Christmas time, and for many of us that means a non-stop barrage of holiday music, but Joe Kohlhofer, a DJ at Austria's Antenne Carinthia station took it to the extreme by playing the same song 24 times in a row. The station was buried in complaints after the young DJ announced that he felt people were not in the proper Christmas spirit and that he would therefore play Wham's 'Last Christmas' for his entire two-hour show. Enjoyed your account, thanks for that. I've known about the Observatory for a long time but one thing that baffled me a bit was the apparent grubbiness of the dish? It looks like algal or mossy growth on the tiles from photos I've seen or is it just staining caused by rain? I sort of expected they'd have to keep it gleaming? )

Maintenance is always an issue on outdoor equipment (hence the special shoes worn by those who go out to adjust and clean the bowl) but shiny is not actually needed for radio (as opposed to optical) telescopes. Not really sure for optical either, but this is an antenna for radio emissions, not for reflecting light.

Sure, thanks for that, but I just sort of expected they might keep it clean anyway. Still, it's their dish and I guess they know what they're doing. )

Look at all the free publicity he got the station and taking complaint calls on air was ingenious! George Michael should come on the show for an interview.
