I'm glad to hear good news on this front...it's certainly a distressing time for many, including our own Travel Rob, who has had to evacuate from Saint Augustine, Florida. And there are concerns that the storm may turn and hit some areas a second time...

Hi GarryRF! I do hope that by the time Hurricane Cristobal reaches the UK it will be nothing more than a weak tropical storm. Don't worry Travel Luver ! No animals were harmed in the making of this film. You have to wait in the Bar until the "All clear" sounds in a storm ! But it actually caused no damage at all. It's fitted with a lightening rod to take the current to earth. Like all tall buildings.

No - no more Fish. Fish like Cod and Haddock like the colder waters of the UK. Too much heat and they go further North to Iceland. The Gulf Stream often gets caught in a pattern. Its been stuck for months now, bringing us warm water to raise temperatures. At this time of year we get an overnight frost and cool days. But we've had 50f at night and over 60f during the day. You cant say your vacations are uneventful DrF. Something to remember for a long time. Here in the UK we're still sweeping up the debris after Hurricane Gonzalo came through this morning. Winds up to 88mph.. But I didn't pay for the privilege of having my day spoilt like you did. Sun will come out tomorrow - more pix needed please !

Wonderful collection of photos DrF. Very educational too.. I didn't know they grew coffee beans there too. My biggest regret is the 3 day stopover I had there. It was nowhere near long enough. But your pix have been an insight into some of the things I would have loved to see.

Thanks for the comments, Garry. Kona coffee is among the most flavorful in the world. Very smooth and rich in flavor. Hawaii's not easy to get to, especially from Europe, but it's worth some effort to do so.

Some of the best long haul flights stop off in interesting places. That's why I love taking a few days in San Francisco. And Hawaii. Mainly because I can walk for miles. So many US cities are not "Pedestrian friendly" I'm off to search the internet for Kona Coffee ! I have noticed that the Islands have the most memorable Flag of all the US States ! Thanks DrF !

The Flag was adopted 70 years after the death of Cook. It was designed by the Head of the Hawaiian Navy. Who's previous employment was with the British Royal Navy.
