Re: South America, part 3 - Nesting Leatherback Sea Turtles
Fascinating! I was just visiting Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia today and discovered that leatherbacks like to spend their summers off the coast feasting on jellyfish. Amazing what long journeys they make to lay their eggs.

Re: "Spotted on the Road". Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada
My thoughts Car # 1 1967-68 Dodge Charger with a 426 Hemi. Not necessarily aftermarket - you could get it as an option. The high rise and the blower were added. They came with dual quads. Car # 2 Most likely 1969 Camaro Super Sport (SS) Coupe. 396 engine. What's special about these beauts ? > They are worth a lot of money these days $ 30 K - $ 40 K.

Re: "Spotted on the Road". Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada
The black car is a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T. You can tell it's a '70 by the line across the middle of the grille and the shape of the front-fender running lights. R/Ts only came with two engine choices - the 375 HP 440 cubic inch or the 425 HP 426 Hemi. The second car is a 1969 Camaro. It appears to be an SS, but that's pretty easy to clone. Can't wait to see what you came up with in Cuba!

Re: "Cruise Night", Thunder Bay, Ontario: The 1960's (Part 2)
Good choice Dr Fumblefinger. I like them all, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be a tie between the 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle and the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS.

Re: "Cruise Night", Thunder Bay, Ontario: The 1970's and 1980's
Some beautiful cars in colours from the Candy Store ! Another amazing collection and worth a close inspection. All these cars must be kept under wraps for most of the year and wait for summer. Thanks for another visit to modern art.

Re: "Cruise Night", Thunder Bay, Ontario: The 1970's and 1980's
Hi again GarryRF Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed this collection of photos. You are correct that these cars are definitely kept warm and secure in garages all over Thunder Bay during the harsh winter months, which makes it all the more special to see them out and about in the summertime. Just another reason why I love summers in the Great White North, eh.

Re: Spotted on the Road, Minturn, Colorado
Wow...that is one tough old car. I can't help but be impressed that this old car is still on the road, especially if the engine looks half as bad as the body. They don't make them like this anymore. By the way Dr Fumblefinger, to answer your above question, I believe this is a 1974 Chevrolet Impala, or at least what's left of it.

Re: Around Halifax
Very nice write-up! Downtown Halifax has some very narrow streets and just was not built for the traffic it gets today. Halifax has some interesting things. It's not my favorite city but Nova Scotia as a whole is a beautiful place to take a road trip.

Re: Possible second Viking site found in Newfoundland
I wouldn't be surprised if they made their way up the St. Lawrence River some, and down the coast past New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and to the Northeastern state regions of the USA. It seems their earlier explorations were at a time of warmer weather and that what might have limited their travels and caused them to pull back was the beginning of a spell of cold weathers, perhaps even a mini-ice age. Iceland used to be a forested country, but it didn't take but 200 years or so until the Vikings...

Re: Classic American Cars #1
Too easy... 1953 Chevrolet sedan. It appears to have Bel Air trim, but it's been altered. The three chrome 'teeth' have been removed from the front grille, the stainless trim around the windshield is gone and the 'Bel Air' script is missing from the rear door - plus, there are several other small changes.

Re: Classic American Cars #3
I was hoping that someone else would jump in with an ID, but I guess that's not going to happen. This one is a 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air sedan. When I first saw it, I thought it might be the other side of Car #1, as the '53 and '54 have the same body and it's easy to interchange trim. After taking a closer look, though, it is a different car (outside mirrors were the key...). As with the first two cars, all the 'letter' script appears to have been removed from this one - kinda strange, in my ...

Re: Finding Reiner #6: Frozen Grave
As you've seen in the Great Escape, taking prisoners into the forest and killing them wasn't just a Russian idea. It was used against the Allied POWs by the SS. But there were many allied airmen shot down over Germany who returned home after the war with life saving surgery by the "enemy" Metal plates fitted to the skull where the bone had been shot away I remember. Shall I send an email to your website Whitney ?
