If I find a meal I enjoy on my travels, then I try to recreate it when time allows. Have you been successful in importing a meal that makes a pleasant surprise for the folks back home ? I never did try the Chinese "Fish Head Soup" or the "Chicken Porridge".

I think I'd have to take a knife and fork to that soup ! Looks delicious - how was it ? Did it have you searching for the antacid tabs ? I couldn't eat a main meal after tackling that soup.

Re: Gumbo's Pic of the Day, Oct. 8, 2014: Onion Soup, Pied de Cochon

Paul Heymont ·
It was delicious. It's what I go there for, while my wife eats platters of shellfish. The broth is rich and sweet with caramelized onion, the cheese is excellent...and yes, it's not just spoonfood! And, as you suggest, soup of that kind IS a meal, not an appetizer! I had a salad with it, but no main.

Re: The Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

GarryRF ·
It's always good to see the art and beauty of emerging nations. Far from the images that we had in our minds if we remember recent history. My Daughter has travelled extensively in Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand and tells amazing stories of some of the local food. Which completely deters my wife from venturing into this part of the world. When we were in Bali and Singapore she survived on McDonalds ! Give me Fish Head soup and Chicken Porage any day !

I really do like this idea because a lot of people are too proud to go to food banks if they are in need and at least they can get a few things there. Here are the items for sale listed on the site : Tea Ground Coffee Chicken Curry Sugar Orangeade Pasta Mushroom Sauce Digestives Chick Peas Sardines and Sauce Cream Crackers Pasta Sauce Flour Tomato Ketchup Variety Pack Cereal Potatoes Jaffa Cakes Fruit...
