Re: A Day in Oxford

Paul Heymont ·
What an amazing visit! I spent a day in Oxford once, I thought, but now it appears I missed almost everything but Blackwell's...

My thanks also for a great post. For a few years I used to go to Oxford twice a year to give a course. Once this was held at Wadham College, and I enclose a few pictures.

Re: Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn (Where Gumbo Was #160)

Looks like an oasis of culture in a big city. I love to see markets and open spaces where people can meet and chat. Puts the heart back in the community. A real mixture of photos that took me a while to guess what country I was in. A good challenge to the WITW is Gumbo fans. Maybe a passing similarity ?..

Yes...let's see who gets this one! Like the Gumbo piece I did once on copies all over the world of the Statue of Liberty , that Roman Arch theme is everywhere!

Thanks guys. I loved all of New York, but this was very special. The ceilings reminded me of the ceilings you see in Europe. Sadly some people probably don't notice unless someone points it out Like I said in the post, it was the only time I felt like I was able to relax, breathe, and take in my surroundings. Definitely look forward to visiting again. Thanks again for you comments.

You'd love the architecture in this building Samantha - St Georges Hall Liverpool England. I worked here for a few years.

Thanks for the new perspective! I live in New York and have worked in that library many times over the years (including in days when it wasn't so well-kept), but you've still given me a fresh view of the building itself!

Now that's what I call Architecture. Beautiful building with an amazing wooden floor too. I could spend days just admiring the skill of the artisan. Enjoyable journey just finding the answer ! Thanks
