The honey looks delicious and the decanters are worth their cost. I enjoyed local markets every weekend while living in Europe. Unfortunately our weekly local farmers market here in rural Virginia ended when the vendors couldn't afford insurance costs for customers who may complain of illness from eating local farmer products.

That’s a real shame! Perhaps there’s a way for some public support for its return? Here in New York, our several dozen ‘Greenmarket’ farmers’ markets operate under an umbrella organization, Council for the Environment, that handles facilities, insurance, advertising and more, and has kept the market movement growing for about 25 years now. Aside from our access to the markets, it’s meant new opportunities for farmers, and has made new and old varieties that don’t travel well but taste...

I love the sights, the sounds, the colours and - yes - the smells of a market. Finding a new fruit or vegetable is amazing. Usually in a country I'm visiting. I found your husbands likings so funny. I read it to my wife but I couldn't finish a sentence for laughing ! Maybe he's a Monty Python fan ?

Great visit to a great market! I try to get to the Pike's Place market almost every time I visit Seattle. You are right, Samantha, there's nothing magical about the fish being thrown around. Everytime someone buys a salmon, it sails from one employee to another to another, and they are remarkably good at it! So if you want to see the action, buy yourself one of these great fish. This is actually a very well known feature of the market and the salmon can be frozen and shipped most anywhere in...

I also visited Viktualienmarkt for produce shopping as an alternative to our local village market. A photo below. I remember a number of statues and fountains in the Viktualienmarkt and I snapped a photo of my favorite Ida Schumacher with a broom and pail in her hand. I couldn't locate my photo, but I attached a royalty free photo.
