Havre de Grace was a primary town on the Eastern Escape Route in Maryland, as slaves could cross the Susquehanna to havens in the free state of Pennsylvania, traveling onward to Philadelphia and New York. Admiral Cockburn's landing under the cover of darkness was assisted by the slaves who joined forces with British Troops. Then onward with their journey to freedom. Admiral Cockburn told O'Neill that he was due to be hanged for attacking the British Troops. But he showed leniency and freed...

I was too cowardly to pull out my camera on those narrow parts, choosing instead to watch my footing. But I found this photo online that gives you an idea of what that's like. It's about a 2000 foot drop on either side.

What a great account of acceptable hardship. Wish there’d been a pic of the skinny part of the trail, but then, it might be a deterrent to visitors !

What a wonderful place! Love the Cabot Trail. The views are amazing! Interestingly, we ate the best Greek and Indian food in Cape Breton. There's also an interesting mining museum where you can go down in the mines with a guide. Hard on you back if you are tall though but worth it. Had a great time!
