The Author of these "Do's and Don'ts" is a Trainee Journalist and has gathered this list without leaving the comfort of her armchair. Lazy journalism based on stereotypes you find in cheap travel guides. Maybe we could start a list of "Do's and Dont's" for US Hotels and employees ? #1 : DONT say "You guys from Europe all sound the same !"

TatToo. I cant find any trace either. Could this be another invented story ? I love TravelGumbo because it sends me an Email as soon as some one adds new words to a Post. It tells me what they said too. Then the contributor removes it because they had second thoughts. But the Joke is still in the Email !! Thanks MrX

Agree with the sentiments. Either a rookie journalist or else an overly politically correct bureaucrat making sure every possible aggrieved individual is covered in this. As I recall the French did something similar last year. I tend to find British people to be very polite as a rule. Present company excluded, of course, GarryRF

CICAK. No one gets upset over a few words here. Unlike my family in the US who think that an exchange of views is the start of WW3. I enjoy exchanging opinions and alternate ideas. As do most people here in the UK. Constructive criticism is a wonderful thing ! DrFunblefinger likes to throw me some "bait" occasionally - but he knows I wont bite the hook. PHeymont likes to rock my boat too. But it's just "light hearted teasing" and we've all been friends for many years ! Some of the...

Perhaps not a trainee journalist. Since the list came from the government's tourism promotion agency, we might presume the author to be a Trainee Bureaucrat, who someday will be, sadly, writing the rules! No, no one is hacking them...and the "advice" was picked up by all the major British papers...usually with an air of slight derision. You won't find it on the public website, which is devoted to getting us to visit; it was distributed as guidance to hotel operators, and as a press release. VisitBritain, British Air point out "undiscovered places"

Paul Heymont ·
The UK has been having a tourist boom, with record inbound traffic over the last 6 months and is looking to keep it going. The official tourist promotion agency and the "flag" airline have teamed up on a series of ads touting less-known attractions to...

"Mind Your Manners!" VisitBritain Warns Hoteliers

Paul Heymont ·
VisitBritain, the official tourist-promotion agency of UK, has published a list of "DOs" and "DON'Ts" for hotels and employees. Some are pretty obvious (don't make fun of Indian accents) and some are based on common national stereotypes (Deal promptly...
