Getting to Nyaungshwe from Mandalay by air is a surreal experience.  But then much of travel in Burma is, in one way or another, surreally beautiful or incongruous.  In this case it’s the latter. 

World famous, Mandalay Marionettes Theatre is keeping this traditional performance art form alive for the Burmese people and for visitors to this northern Burma city.  Originally a royal entertainment, it’s now available to all.
