Delta Skymiles: Big Changes Ahead...Very Big
If that sounds a bit complicated, here's the deal. When you earn "miles" using a credit card, it's 1 or 2 miles per dollar, but most frequent flier programs give you a "mile" for each mile flown. Delta, starting in 2015, will become the first major...

United, AA to offer "basic economy"—that's the Spirit!
Ultra-low cost carriers like Spirit are pushing the majors into the no-frills arena. United has announced it will follow Delta next year, and offer "basic economy" style fares with no baggage, upgrade or airport privileges, and American has indicated that it's exploring the idea, too. Fares like that—Spirit calls it a "bare fare"—have been the staple of flying on the ULC carriers such as Spirit and Frontier, but the majors have resisted up to now because they have wanted to...

Airlines ban hoverboards; batteries could burn on-board
Hoverboards, also known as balance boards, are being banned from most U.S. flights because their large lithium-ion batteries are a fire risk on board. Already banned by JetBlue, Hawaiian and Virgin America, the popular devices, a kind of self-balancing scooter, hit the no-fly list in the last two days for Alaska and the big three (American, United and Delta). Only Southwest, among large airlines, still allows them. Delta put the issue this way: "Poorly-labeled, powerful lithium-ion batteries...

Re: Update: Loyalty Programs and Credit Cards
A very useful bunch of information, PHeymont. I've been an AA/Citibank cardholder for over 8 years now and am a satisfied customer. I realize I might squeeze more points out if I open new accounts but I prefer to not have to think too much, be the tortoise and concentrate on piling up the points in 1 place by putting every possible purchase on the card, never spending more than I normally would. Also, when making large purchases, all other aspects being equal, I choose a company that accepts...

Change at the low end of American's menu of fare options isn't the only one they plan for economy flying. An upscaled version of premium economy will be rolled out, starting next year, for long-haul flights. http://www.aa.com/i18n/urls/pr...title=premiumeconomy

They do have a great game going: Take it away from you, and then ransom it back. And there's more...in the next couple of days, Gumbo will have a news update about what may be ahead for the premium end of the plane, too!

Thanks for making us aware of it. As long as we can get the low fare by booking individual cities, that still works for me!

Re: AAdvantage members, bite your nails: change is coming
A friend who works in marketing once told me that whenever you hear words such as "in order to serve you better", you're about to lose something. This sounds like it might be one of those times. I've been very happy with my AAdvantage experience for years and, as you say, earn most of my miles with credit card use. If lower fares with adjusted mileage credit are part of their plan I wouldn't mind and, in fact, might even fly American more, resulting in more, rather than fewer, miles in the...

Re: Lucky flier gets a private flight on Delta
