Thanks for this post! It's too easy for those of us who have never been there to see Hong Kong as just a bustling high-rise city. I love when my expectations get changed!

So much more to Hong Kong than the media / TV would have us believe. Maybe it's not as suppressed by China as much as we're lead to believe.

A great set of photos! You are right about the need for transport at the site. We contemplated hiring some bicycles, but in the end opted for a tuk-tuk. They were reasonably priced - relatively cheap, actually - and the drivers are quite knowledgeable about the attractions.

Professor Abe visits an impressive collections of Buddha statues. They are over a thousand years old and lost until rediscovered in the 1920s.

Thanks for your comment. It is not a well-known site - even our friend Eranda had never been there (and, as I said, nor had our driver). A visit here can be combined with a safari in Udawalawe or Lunugamwehera. We spent four days in the area and explored all three places as well as a couple of other interesting sights. Below is one of my favourite shots from inside Udawalawe N.P.:

In my trips to Sri Lanka, this was a place I'd missed and frankly had not heard of before. Thanks for sharing these great photos and bringing this unusual spot to our attention.
