And no, we don’t mean the famous British musician. This is about an ordinary grey seal who is, now, famous in his own right for his choice of lodging.
Police and animal welfare workers were more than a bit surprised last week when they were called to a seaside hotel with a report of a seal sleeping in a hotel room. The guest (human) staying in the room had taken her dog for a walk, and found the uninvited pinniped. She called for help. Zeeland Animal Welfare Foundation said “We often receive strange reports and are not easily surprised anymore, but when we received a report [last night] we could not believe it at first.”
The workers reported that “It was a strange sight, the guests standing outside a bit nervous and the completely relaxed seal that was sleeping inside.” Despite their cute appearance, seals can be quite grumpy and prone to biting when disturbed. The rescue workers got it into a ‘seal basket’ and released it in a safe, quiet place far from the hotel.
