Nearly half a mile of construction barriers lining a transit corridor for passengers at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport has been turned into what must be one of the world’s longest murals, a work dubbed “Time Lines.”
The artwork is a collaboration between the airport contractors, WINK ‘experiential agency’ and the STRAAT Museum. The work focuses on travel, time and human connection and was created by five artists whose work is arranged in a single visual timeline that matches passenger movement through the corridor.
Marion Wolff, director of the STRAAT Museum, said the airport setting shaped the concept. “We see the airport as a place where countless personal timelines converge,” she said. “By introducing street art into this context, we create space for reflection within an environment that is constantly in motion.”
No word, though, on what happens when the construction work is completed—but perhaps by then there’ll be another project for it to move to!
