After an extended name-calling feud with Elon Musk over Musk’s Starlink WiFi, Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary says Ryanair will eventually have WiFi.
Up to now, he’s insisted it won’t happen because in his view, Ryanair’s budget-minded customers wouldn’t pay for it, and it would increase fuel consumption by planes.
But in a recent interview with Reuters, he said he expects that Ryanair will have WiFi as advances in technology make it a better deal. He told the interviewer that new technology could end the need for external antennas. “When that happens, we’ll be able to roll out free Wi-Fi across the Ryanair network,” he said, saying that could happen within three to five years. He said that his company is in ongoing talks with Amazon Web Services, Vodafone, and even Starlink.
