I believe Airports should be judged solely on whether you had a pleasant experience. There is no way Orlando isn't in the Top10. New York is a disgrace. But I pass through as an alien - US residents see no problem. Philadelphia is a dream. Excellent Airport.

It's a beautiful sight as it passes over Liverpool. Descending into Hawarden Airport. It collects new Airbus wings and then returns to Germany. This aircraft is so big it appears to be stationary in the sky as it passes above.

Glad you're traveling again, Mac. Boston is my home town, and October is THE BEST MONTH. Where are you staying in the city? I'd walk the Freedom Trail if you're feeling up to it. Go down to the waterfront. Boston Common and Charles Street are fun places to hang out. Newbury Street is fancy shopping and also has a few fun bistros and coffee shops. The Science Museum is excellent. Plenty of seafood to be had. New England clam chowder is great if you have sweater-weather. Go whale-watching...

An ever changing canvas of art. Sometimes you just have to stop - and take in the beauty of nature. As the sun was setting last week - the sky turned a shade of purple. Last launch I watched was from the East Coast of Florida - maybe near Cocoa Beach. The Sky was complete darkness, just a few stars and the moon. We were listening to the launch radio station from about T minus 15 minutes - as NASA described the last minute checks. A few seconds before launch time you could see the ground at Cape Canaveral illuminated like a bright white flare. My only experience of being on the water in NY Harbor was a lesson in perspective and point of view, as this one is. Seen from a clear distance in this way, a great city is an entirely different beast.

Thanks, that was a good article. I got some ideas from it! I always get confused about whether I need to take insurance from the rental and it's always sky-high. I have some credit cards that say they cover it, but I hadn't realized that a lot of time my own car insurance would cover me with the rental. Boy, have we wasted a bunch! The other idea I liked there was taking pictures of the car before you leave their office so you can show them if they try to say you scratched up the car. Feels...

One of the amazing features of the North of England is how long the day is. I love waking at 4am with the sun shining on my bed. And sitting in the garden until the sky goes a dark blue for the 3 hours of night. The Twilight Zone maybe. No mosquitoes and a glass of Prosecco. Fine end to the day.

This debate seems to accept that the profit margins of Trans-Atlantic Flights are squeezed by costs outside the carriers control. The only solution they have is squeeze more seats in to control income. Last month I paid £759 ($1245) for 1 seat UK to Philadelphia - Return - with an American Airline. 7 hours in the sky. Each way. My £759 will also get me a flight to the Caribbean from the UK. 10 hours in the sky. 14 nights in a hotel. Food and drink included. And flight back. The Caribbean...

Perhaps we had a local UFO group over a thousand years ago. This is another feature best viewed from the sky. Recent archaeological radar of the surrounding soil found - beneath his left hand - there was a cloak and a severed head. But good taste has allowed this to erode away.

All the Birds came down from the sky. The temperature dropped from 10c/50f to 5c/41f in a few minutes and a wind started to blow. Cars put their lights on and I was freezing cold outside in my T-Shirt. But I'll remember it well. Two total and one partial eclipse so far !

At those prices, they can certainly claim to be "sky-high!" That's $116 for a family of four for an elevator ride. And even at that, it's only a couple of dollars more than the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center, and the same as the Empire State Building charges for its 86th floor deck, with an additional charge for the top deck. It seems a shame that families on a budget have no access to the iconic "NY from the air" view that their children may be clamoring for.

Seagulls are just rats with wings. They ruin lake fishing when you scatter ground bait. Scare the fish. Take 12 inches of fishing line. Tie a hook at each end. Make a ball of bread at each hook. Shoot into the sky with your bait catapult. Catch a seagull at each end. The noise they make scares the rest of the flock. Instantly fly away !

I lived in Winnipeg for about a dozen years during my teens and early 20s, and go back often to visit my elderly father who still lives there in a retirement home. I've seen some of the street art in the city, but not these very interesting murals. I note on the Valour mural photos there appears to be white stuff falling from the sky. Thanks for the comment, Garry. I do think Halifax is trying to rejuvenate itself, best seen along the waterfront. It really does have a lovely harbor and a number of fine restaurants and pubs. And the people are very friendly and helpful. As for "must see", I'd say 'no'. Much more important for a great travel experience is to visit the small coastal towns of the Maritime which will charm you to no end. But to get there most people would fly through Halifax, so definitely take a day or two to...

Fascinating to see how many forms tugs and towboats take! Here's one from New York with a similar history. She's the W.O. Decker, one of the last steam tugs built in New York Harbor (1930) and also later converted to diesel...and also retired in the 1980s. She's a tiny tug, built to move barges in an out of the small coves and streams that join New York Harbor. Since 1986, the W.O. Decker has belonged to the South Street Seaport Museum. With no obvious clues to pursue, I simply googled "pink boat". I didn't find this one but there was a pink fishing boat in Bergen. Also harbor-side brick buildings although none that I could identify as this one precisely. However, that's my guess, Bergen, Norway.

The spelling of "Harbor" indicates the US, and the angle of the sun suggests the southern half. I suspect if it were California, there are Travel Gumbo bloggers who would have recognised it by now. There is a flag with a single star - could this be an old version of the flag of Texas? So what about the Texas coast somewhere?

Lots of interesting comments. It does indeed remind me of the Denver Airport, and it is specifically designed to make you think of a ship. It is actually part of the roof of Canada Place in beautiful Vancouver Harbor. I'll do a full discussion on it in a post tomorrow. Jonathan L was the first to correctly recognize the structure, and PortMoresby and Still Country Photo also figured out where it was. Excellent work, team!
