Re: Eurostar, Eurotunnel, ferries shut by sailor protests

PortMoresby ·
I may get myself in trouble, not the first time, but this sort of behavior, inconveniencing their fellow citizens as well as others, seems to be particularly part of French workers' way of doing things, and an aspect of the culture in general, self-aggrandizing on many levels. I love France, but not this particular national trait.

PM -- I think we should be grateful the guillotine is now housed in the museum and not dragged along to these events.

Remember 'All That Jazz'? And the song 'Everything Old is New Again'? "Don't throw the past away, you might need it some rainy day". What's to keep them from dragging it out, should they deem it appropriate.

Interesting tale, Rob. Sorry that you had to leave Vivie behind. I did two 14 day quarantines this past year and know someone who had to do six of them. What a waste of productive time. Never again.

In our case, I'm very grateful. We had to jump through a lot of hoops but we managed to see each other during most of the pandemic. But I've heard so many heartbreaking stories. Couples that can't see each other. Divorced parents who can't see their kids . Mother's that can't see their sons. The list goes on. Not to mention all the jobs losses in the border towns and property owners who are going to have to deal with houses left vacant for 2 years. I think Canada will start to open up soon...

Garry - In this case, everyone was nice. And as a positive, I got to see a glimpse of Maine . I think I have a better understanding of how the border communities view each other as one. Prime Minister Trudeau quoted President Reagan before calling the US-Canada border “a meeting place, rather than a dividing line.” Hope it gets back to that.
