Very cool! As I contemplate getting my own bike back on the road, hills are one of the issues (aside from traffic) and I've even thought about one of these...great way to get around a city that's bicycle-friendly... I found a picture...they're like regular bikes, it seems, not like a Vespa, so probably easier to park, too.

I hadn't thought about that but, you're right, even as narrow a view as the width of a bicycle conveys a good sense of place. And my preference for towns and villages, rather than cities. I have picture of a ferry bicycle parking lot on Lantau Island, Hong Kong and, even though it's a rural place, it appears that every person on the island must be represented by a bike in the lot, there are so many. The horses (probably only some 10 plus a donkey) and some 50 cattle are allowed to roam and graze totally free (restrained only by cattle grids on the surrounding roads) for around 8 months of the year. Theoretically only animal owners with ancient "Commoners Rights" linked to ownership of old properties in the immediate vicinity of the Common are permitted to release their animals to graze free in this way. The present purpose of the animals roaming in this way is supposed to be keeping...

Hey, guys...thanks for a bunch of good ideas! I think the 3-wheel bike is not for me, but the idea of buying an old ragtop and then selling it appeals to me. Not even sure I'll need a car living in Seattle, but don't know yet (job is near the waterfront, but don't know where I can afford to live!) National Parks idea sounds really good to me...I've loved the ones I've been to before. Shunpiking? I didn't make that up! This is from Merriam Webster:

I love visiting quirky and delightful places like this! Many years ago we used to visit a little restaurant in Casablanca which served great food prepared by it's French 'patron' whose rudeness and abuse of his customers (never nasty) was an absolute scream! Ah travel! We love you....

Wild gators rarely attack people unless you stumble onto them -- say fall off your bike on top of a gator sunning himself. They are happiest to avoid humans. Problems arising when people feed gators. Then they can become aggressive and associate people with food. If you don't give them any, they might decide to take a bite out of you.. That said, gator attacks are still very rare. And yes, they're great at hiding themselves, Pheymont. You really need to train your eye to see them as they lie...
