Awesome car DrFumblefinger! A very nice find indeed Thank you for sharing it with us. By the way, if I had to guess the vintage, I would also say 1955.

That certainly brings back memories! Sometime in the late 1970's my wife and I were lucky enough to travel to Zambia and drove down to the falls from Lusaka staying at a hotel close by. The next morning we decided to follow the foot path that went down to the bottom of the falls, through the bush, well watered by the spray of the falls. It was only on arrival at the bottom that we were greeted by a large notice saying "Beware of snakes" at which we beat a hasty retreat back to the hotel!

The aerial images give an amazing perspective! I didn't know how narrow that gorge was. Was this a special helicopter overflight or were you lucky enough to get these shots from the window of your airplane?

Grand Escapades ·
The gorge is actually extremely narrow, and it is only from the air that you get a full perspective of the Falls, as you have too much mist to have a full grasp of the whole. Yes, I took an helicopter, and it was an amazing flight. From Zambia, you can also take an Ultra Light Flight, which must be even more amazing. I didn't cross into Zambia and regretted it afterwards. I would also have loved to jump in the Devil's Pool on the Zambian side, but I think there was too much water at that...

Re: The Empty Plinth, Regina

Paul Heymont ·
Sadly, many public statues do not show us history for " what is was, warts and all," but rather a distorted image of it. Let us be clear: removing a statue is not removing history, it is removing a statement about history. When statues of Saddam Hussein were torn down in Iraq, no one thought they were saying he hadn’t happened, but rather that he shouldn’t have been honored. For the same reason, there are no Hitler statues in Germany. The same could be applied to those in Revolutionary War...

When I see a sign from our past I always like to dig deeper into its History. Bearing in mind that History of any conflict is always written by the Victors. If we don't see "Doorways" into our past then we'll look no further. Man's inhumanity to Man is never far away and needs to be kept in our thoughts. Maybe a better option would be to add more Statues of Famous folks of Non-White Descent. Balance the books - Don't burn them.
