Westjet 787s open up new routes

Westjet, the Canadian discount airline that's been dreaming big for a while now has the Dreamliners to match, with the first of ten rolling off the Boeing assembly line this week and entering service soon.

With the exception of a handful of ex-Qantas 767s, Westjet has been an all 737 airline, flying a fairly dense network of flights domestically and to the U.S. and the Caribbean, but Europe, and then possibly Asia, has been on its mind for a while; hence the 767s, which will soon retire.

The 787s, in a three-class configuration unusual for a discounter, will fly their first routes out of Westjet's home town, Calgary. Service to London Gatwick starts April 28, to Paris on May 17 and to Dublin June 1.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
