Spotted on the Road: 1954 Meteor

Meteor was a line of cars made by Ford in Canada from 1949 to 1976 (excluding the 1962 and 1963 model years when the name was used for the Mercury Meteor sold in the United States).

The idea was to give Canadian Mercury-Lincoln dealers a lower-priced car for the market, especially to compete against the Pontiac. From 1949-59, Meteor typically ran fourth in overall sales, behind Chevrolet, Ford, and Pontiac.

The 1954 Meteor used a 255 hp flathead V8 engine.  The entry-level car was called just Meteor, replacing Ford's Mainline series. Meteor was discontinued after 1961 largely because of slow sales.

From time to time I have a dream that I've left my old car parked somewhere.  It's never clear whether it's the 2-tone (also gray - very snappy) '51 Pontiac with a sun visor, or the '53 Plymouth, but if I could just remember where it is, it's there waiting for me.
